Nia was created in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas. They were forerunners to developing fusion fitness. A Mind Body and Spirit approach - incorporating Dance, Yoga and Martial Arts.
Today NIA has grown to include in the wonderful routines:- T’ai chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, Yoga and Pilates. Danced to uplifting, inspirational, stimulating and relaxing music. The music to me is so unique, it gives you energy and you just want to smile.
Nia welcomes everybody. All ages, sizes and fitness levels can do Nia.
Done in bare feet, Nia is a practice that teaches you to be more JOYFUL, EXPRESSIVE and ALIVE in your body. It teaches you to listen to the voice of your body, to move your body’s way and sense how it wants to move and express itself.
When we move the body's way - it is natural. It is honouring the individual design and structure that we have been given by mother nature, allowing it to guide our movements.
Nia tones and trims the body - effortlessly. It starts with fitness and ends with comprehensive healing of the whole body.
NIA becomes a way of life as you learn to have more joy of movement, it carries over into your daily life - even washing up and mowing the lawn!!!
I am very passionate about NIA, because it has helped me in many ways and I am grateful to Debbie and Carlos for taking time and energy to create it.
